This session will examine more complicated subjects including TennCare's Long Term Services and Supports, Home and Community Based Services, the Medicaid Act's Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment mandate for individuals 21 years and younger, Medical Service Appeals including Private Duty Nursing reductions, and any programmatic changes as a result of recent legislation.  The session is designed for attorneys and advocates who already have a basic understanding of TennCare.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the Services Offered under TennCare's Long Term Services and Supports Program 
2. Understand the Reach of the EPSDT Mandate 
3. Develop Strategies to Successfully Represent Individuals on Medical Services Appeals

The course covers restraining orders, temporary injunctions, and permanent injunctions in Tennessee courts of record, including caselaw, statutory and rule requirements; defenses; appeals; and pitfalls.

Learning Objectives:

1. Better understanding of the three types of injunctions.
2. Better understanding of how to seek and defend against injunctive relief. 
3. Better understanding of appellate review of the granting and denial of injunctive relief.

How Orders of Protection Affect and Interact with Other Courts and Causes of Action

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand that findings in an order of protection hearing are very useful for other family law matters. 
2. Understand that criminal convictions are very useful for obtaining orders of protection, especially lifetime orders of protection. 
3. Learn work with clients on the decision-making process re: having a hearing or not.

What is all this talk about mindfulness? This presentation will explore why lawyers need to pay attention to their mental state. The presenter will provide tools for being more present while practicing law. Mindfulness is more than rest and relaxing. It is being intentional about one’s own well-being while assisting clients with their legal issues. When a lawyer is present the client is best served.

Learning Objectives:

1. The participants will learn what mindfulness is and how it pertains to legal practice. 
2. The participants will learn the about the brain and how lawyers process information. 
3.  The participants will be provided tools to use for mental health and effective legal representation. 

The course covers civil and criminal contempt of court in Tennessee’s courts of record, including caselaw, statutory and rule requirements; defenses; appeals; and pitfalls.

1. Better understanding of criminal and civil contempt and their differences. 
2. Better understanding of how to seek and defend against contempt sanctions. 
3. Better understanding of appellate review of the granting and denial of contempt sanctions.
